Have you ever visited a new place and felt ‘wow’ about it? For many visitors, it happens at Didim.

Didim may not be as popular as other cities in Turkey, but don’t let that fool you. It is a smaller but charming tourist destination that is well worth a visit.

it is a rapidly growing holiday resort utterly different from what it used to be. Welcoming many tourists with its beautiful beaches, pristine coastline, ancient towns, culture, and sunshine – compared to the big tourist resorts like Bodrum and Kusadasi, it’s a hidden treasure! There’s something for everyone, from couples and families to groups of friends and solo travellers looking for adventure. You will be surprised by some of the unique things to do and places you can explore at this fun destination. BEACHES

With an impressive coastline, Didim’s Beaches have been awarded the blue flag. With many beaches to choose from here is a couple to start you off…

Altınkum Beach is the most popular beach by far is Altınkum. Located around 2km from the city centre and reachable via cab or bus, the Altınkum beach takes its name from the golden sand that stretches out from the end of the boardwalk right into the beautiful glittering sea. So why not spend some of your time swimming in the magical Aegean blues.  

Manastir Koyu Beach is the perfect beach for families to bring their children to. The water is warm, clear and shallow, so the little ones can while away a very happy afternoon having a splash about in the sea. If they would prefer not to get their feet wet, the beach itself is a beautiful stretch of sand, fine white sand to be exact. Sun loungers can be hired, but if you’d rather just set down a towel, that’s fine too.

BOAT TRIPS

A boat trips from Didim is an excellent opportunity to spend the day relaxing on the sea surrounded by spectacular views. You can discover other beaches, natural coves and bays. These trips can be organised daily from the harbour in the summer season, starting at the beginning of May. Water sports, scuba diving courses and fishing tours are also available. Didim shines for its beaches on sandy bays and tiny rocky coves, all with crystal clear waters.

DIDIM AQUA PARK

For those looking for excitement and adventure, get ready for the biggest aqua park in Didim. Have a good time and participate in volleyball, swimming and of course the waterslides and rides. Open daily for you to enjoy your holiday in Turkey with a fun-filled day. The aqua park also provides a free bus service, which is only a 10-minute journey from Altinkum.

THE TEMPLE OF APOLLO

Marvel at the ancient ruins and natural wonders of Didim. Didyma is one of Didim’s most important historic sites and truly stuns with its ruins. Only a short distance from the city centre, The Temple of Apollo is at the top of the historical places to visit. Besides being the third largest temple in the ancient world, Apollo is the Temple of Artem is’s architectural twin, one of the world’s seven wonders. The stone-carved head of Medusa tells a rich tale of Tukey’s incredible history. What’s left behind of the Temple of Apollo in Didim is amazing to see in person. Local buses run every 15 minutes from Altinkum. Or why not take a 30-minute walk in early evenings or mornings from Altinkum.

MILETUS MUSEUM – ANCIENT RUINS

This stretched-out site effortlessly combines a mixture of well-kept ruins testifying to its glorious past, with corners that leave more room for your imagination. Take a walk around some of Miletus’ landmarks – the first thing that strikes you after you arrive in the theatre. Built-in the 4th century BC, it was enlarged several times in its existence, until it had a 15,000 spectators seating capacity. Walking around in it is a step by step discovery of beauty and history. The broad stairs that lead to the next level or the arched ‘hallways’ behind the seats are well worth seeing. Make your way up to the top to discover a picturesque landscape and a great view of the theatre.

You can view the other landmarks such as the Faustina Baths which consist of an enormous and well-preserved complex situated right next to a Palaestra with a square dedicated to exercising. Past the Faustina Baths lies The Temple of Serapis, the Ionic Stoa at Miletus, which is probably one of its most iconic images and much more – trust us, Miletus is worth your time.

DIDIM MARKET

Turkey is nothing short of a shopper’s paradise. So what better way to spend a Saturday morning than searching for souvenirs, trinkets and treasures in a bustling street bazaar. You’ll find everything from exotic fruits, vegetables and spices, to knock-off footy strips and designer fakes. Want to try the cheese and olives before you buy? Then no problem. You’ll pass stands piled high with soft-knit pashminas and rack after rack of soft leather bags and brightly paint pots – just make sure you haggle to get the best deals, and whatever you do, don’t leave without buying a box of sugar-dusted Turkish Delight. These sticky sweets are an exotic taste of Turkey and a great take-home treat.

LAKE BAFA NATURE PARK

About 16km from Didim is Lake Bafa Natural Park, another excellent day trip for visitors who have a interest in spending some time within the natural elements. The nature reserve hosts up to 300,000 bird varieties and covered with tamarisks, pine tree, and olive groves. Visitors can get active with such pursuits as trekking, mountain biking, and kayaking.

SAPLI ADA – HANDLE ISLAND

A small island name Sapli Ada means island with a handle is actually a peninsula. It is located about 100m offshore Akbük Bay, can be reached by foot where you can walk to its ruins. From a bird’s eye view, you can see that it looks like a coffee pot with its handle. Sapli Island was formed by volcanic ash accumulation spread from a volcanic eruption that took place in the Aegean Sea in 1500 BC and is now a protected area.  This area is perfect for snorkelling, swimming and diving.

JEEP SAFARI AROUND DIDIM

You’ve relaxed by the pool and spent time on the beach, and now you’re ready for an action-packed day where you can mix fun with the spectacular views of the mountains on a Jeep Safari excursion.

An experienced, knowledgeable guide will drive you and your group for a tour. It is an open 4×4 jeep off-road so you can take a break from the hustle of the town and swap it for the tranquillity of the countryside. Didim beach club is a great place to go and escape to, with just a small charge of about £5 for entry, you get access to fantastic facilities.
