What are dental crowns and when might I need one?A dental crown is like a “cap” that covers the entire tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance. You might need a crown if a tooth is badly decayed, cracked, or worn down, or after a root canal treatment – basically whenever a tooth is too damaged for a simple filling or veneer. Crowns can also be used cosmetically to improve the look of teeth (for example, as part of a smile makeover, some people get crowns on all their visible teeth for a fully uniform look). Once in place, a crown encases the visible part of the tooth above the gum line, protecting it and giving it a new outer surface. Modern crowns are often made of ceramic or zirconia, which closely mimic natural enamel. In summary, if you have a compromised tooth or want to change a tooth’s appearance drastically, a crown may be recommended to give you a healthy, natural-looking tooth again.
Opting for dental crowns at Sevil Smile Studio in Turkey offers several advantages, especially for UK patients. First, the cost savings are significant – you can get the same high-quality crowns for a fraction of the price you’d pay in Britain (often 50-70% less). But it’s not just about cost: our clinic provides exceptional quality care. We utilize advanced technologies like digital scanning and CAD/CAM design to create crowns with perfect fit and aesthetics. Our dentists are experts in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, ensuring your crowns look natural and feel comfortable. We offer a range of top-grade materials (like E-max porcelain and zirconium) that are durable and beautiful. Additionally, we’re well-versed in treating international patients: from arranging your airport pickup to having translators (though all our key staff speak English fluently), we make the whole experience convenient. You get to enjoy a vacation in Turkey while getting your dental work done by an award-winning team – many find the overall experience more pleasant and personalized than back home.
Dental crowns in Turkey tend to be much more affordable than in the UK. For example, a zirconia or porcelain crown in Turkey might cost around €100–€250 (approximately £90–£220)per tooth. In the UK, a similar high-quality crown can cost around £500–£800 or more at a private dentist (some UK clinics charge over £1000 for a single crown, depending on the material and location). One source notes that in the UK a full set of crowns can range up to €1,400 per tooth, whereas in Turkey the price can be as low as €115 for a zirconium crown
. At Sevil Smile, we will give you a clear quote based on the number of crowns and materials you need. Even adding in flight and hotel costs, patients usually find a full-mouth crown treatment in Turkey comes out significantly cheaper than in the UK. The lower cost is due to lower lab and clinic overheads in Turkey, but rest assured the materials (ceramics, etc.) are often the very same brands used worldwide. So you’re getting equal quality at a better price.
We offer a variety of crown types at Sevil Smile Studio, and we’ll recommend the best option based on your needs and preferences. The main types include: Zirconia crowns, which are extremely strong and metal-free, offering great aesthetics and durability (ideal for both front and back teeth); Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns, which have a metal core with a porcelain exterior (these were common historically, but we use them less now in favor of newer materials since PFMs can sometimes show a dark line at the gum); E-max (lithium disilicate) crowns, which are a type of all-ceramic crown known for superb translucency and beauty (often used for front teeth when appearance is paramount); and Full porcelain crowns, like layered ceramic, which also provide a natural look for front teeth. We even have branded signature crowns like our “Sevil Pearly White®” zirconium series, which are essentially high-end zirconia crowns with beautiful shading and a 5-year guarantee. In most cosmetic cases, patients prefer metal-free crowns (zirconia or E-max) for the best look. During your consultation, we’ll explain the pros and cons of each type – for example, zirconia is incredibly tough (great for molars or if you grind your teeth), while E-max may look slightly more like natural enamel (great for incisors). Rest assured, all the options we provide are high quality. We’ll help you choose a crown type that suits the tooth’s function and gives you the aesthetics you desire.
The process for getting dental crowns in Turkey is efficient – typically completed within 5 to 7 days for multiple crowns (fewer days if it’s just one or two crowns)You will usually only need a single trip. Here’s how it works at Sevil Smile: On Day 1, you’d have a consultation and we prepare (shape) the teeth that will receive crowns. This involves trimming the tooth to make room for the crown cap. We take 3D scans or molds of your teeth, and you’ll immediately get temporary crowns placed on those prepared teeth so you’re never left with gaps or stubby teeth. Over the next few days, our dental lab fabricates your custom crowns (with our digital workflow, we get very precise results quickly – often the lab work is done in 2-4 days depending on number of crowns). During this time, you’re free to relax and enjoy the local area. Then, around Day 4 or 5, we do a try-in or directly cement the final crowns if everything fits perfectly. Any minor adjustments are made for bite and appearance. By the end of the week, all your new permanent crowns are cemented in place and you’ll have a brand-new smile. If you were getting a full mouth of crowns, we might schedule two longer appointments (one for the prep and one for final fit), but it still fits in a single trip. So, expect one visit to Turkey and a few appointments within that week to complete a crown treatment.
Getting a crown is generally not painful because we ensure you’re well numbed for any part of the procedure that involves tooth drilling. When we prepare your tooth for a crown, we use local anesthesia, so you won’t feel the drilling – it’s similar to the sensation of getting a filling done under anesthetic. After the preparation, you might have some minor gum soreness or sensitivity (since we work around the gumline), but this is usually mild and temporary. Over-the-counter painkillers are more than enough if you feel any post-preparation discomfort, though many patients report little to no pain. Importantly, yes, you will have a temporary crown to wear while waiting for the permanent one. We never leave you with a shaved-down tooth exposed. The temporary crown will be made of acrylic or resin and is there to protect the tooth and allow you to eat and talk normally (just be a bit gentle on that tooth). It won’t look as perfect as the final ceramic crown, but it will be tooth-colored and not too noticeable. Once your final crown is ready, we remove the temporary and cement the permanent crown in place. The end result should feel just like a natural tooth. So, throughout the process, you’ll remain comfortable and won’t have any embarrassing gaps.
Yes, crowns done at Sevil Smile are designed to look and feel just like natural teeth. We pay great attention to the shape, size, and color of your crowns so that they blend seamlessly with your other teeth (unless you’re doing a full set, in which case we design them to create a perfect overall look). For color matching, we either use a shade guide to match your adjacent teeth or, if you’re getting many crowns, we help you select a shade that you desire for your new smile. Our all-ceramic crowns (zirconia, E-max) have a translucency and brightness very similar to real tooth enamel, so light reflects off them naturally. Once cemented, a crown’s fit is very precise – it shouldn’t feel bulky or loose. After a brief adjustment period (a few days at most), it will feel like you’ve regained your original tooth. You’ll be able to chew normally and smile confidently. In fact, often even dentists have to examine closely to tell a crown apart from a natural tooth when the quality is high. We also involve you in the final evaluation: before permanently cementing, we let you see the crown in place to confirm you’re happy with how it looks. Our goal is that your friends or colleagues won’t be able to tell you have crowns – they’ll just notice your great smile.
Dental crowns are a long-lasting solution. On average, well-made crowns can last 10 to 15 years or even longer with proper care
. Many patients keep their crowns for 20+ years without issues. The lifespan of a crown depends on several factors: the material (zirconia and porcelain are very durable), your oral hygiene, your biting habits, and regular dental check-ups. At Sevil Smile, we use high-quality materials and bonding techniques to ensure longevity. For instance, zirconia crowns are known for their strength and can withstand heavy chewing forces, making them likely to last a very long time
. To get the most life out of your crowns, you should brush and floss around them daily (to protect the underlying tooth and gum from decay or gum disease), and avoid using your teeth in ways that could damage crowns (like cracking nutshells or opening bottles). Also, see your dentist for cleanings and exams; they’ll check the crown and the tooth underneath periodically. If you clench or grind your teeth at night, a night guard can prevent excessive force on crowns and natural teeth alike. We’re so confident in our crowns that we provide a guarantee (for example, many of our crowns come with a 5-year guarantee against manufacturing defects). With good care, expect well over a decade of service from your crowns, and potentially much more.
If you require a large number of crowns, even a full-mouth restoration (where most or all of your teeth are crowned or replaced), Sevil Smile Studio is fully equipped to handle that. In fact, many of our international patients come for exactly this – sometimes dubbed a “Turkey teeth” full smile transformation, which often involves 20+ crowns or a mix of crowns and veneers. Our approach is comprehensive: we carefully plan your bite and smile so that the end result is functional, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing. Doing many crowns at once is a bit more complex than a single crown, but we have a coordinated system – our dental team works on different sections of your mouth efficiently, and our on-site lab crafts a full set of crowns that work together harmoniously. The timeline might be on the longer side of the 5-7 days window, perhaps closer to a week (or occasionally slightly more if it’s extremely complex), but it’s still a single trip in most cases. We will also discuss the design of your new smile with you – you have a say in how it will look (shape, shade, etc.). A full-mouth restoration can correct bite issues, improve facial aesthetics, and of course give you a uniform, beautiful set of teeth. Many patients who had multiple failing teeth or old dental work find that getting a full set of new crowns at once is life-changing. Even if you need some extra procedures like root canals or gum treatments as part of the process, we can coordinate those. The key is, if you need extensive work, you’re in good hands – our team will ensure the result is a healthy, natural-looking, and stable set of teeth.
We believe that aftercare is just as important as the treatment itself. Once your crowns are in place, we will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for them and your overall oral health. We encourage you to maintain regular dental visits once you’re back in the UK – your local dentist can help keep an eye on your crowned teeth during routine check-ups. We’re also just a phone call or email away if you have any questions or concerns after you return home. In terms of guarantees: Sevil Smile Studio offers warranties on our dental work, including crowns. Typically, our crowns come with a 5-year guarantee against any failures due to materials or craftsmanship. This means if a crown cracks, or comes off due to an issue with how it was made or fitted, we would repair or replace it at no cost. (This wouldn’t cover, say, you cracking it because of an accident or not following care instructions, but it covers any fault on our side.) If something does happen, we’ll work with you on the most convenient solution – whether that’s visiting a partner clinic in the UK or coming back to us for correction. We stand by the quality of our crowns, so issues are quite rare. Our goal is for you to be completely satisfied and to enjoy your new crowns worry-free. And remember, even after the formal warranty period, you can always reach out to us for advice or to plan any future dental needs – once a Sevil Smile patient, always a part of the Sevil Smile family!
